8.1 Week 8 OVERVIEW: Chapter 3 - Types of Movies
This week we really begin to familiarize with both film styles and genres within dramatic narrative. You will learn basic concepts, screen a film and contribute to a discussion of that film with your peers. Then complete a short quiz.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this week, you will be able to:
Define narrative and other significant terms.
Examine narrative, documentary and experimental styles.
Examine narrative structure - the “classical paradigm” in American cinema.
Utilize the six genre conventions to determine the genre of a film.
Discuss cycles and the evolution of genre.
