GETTING STARTED
Welcome! This week we begin our study of mise-en-scéne. You may notice the material below is not absolutely sequential, for a three to five page mise-en-scéne analysis is due at the end of week 8; you should be aware of it now. Completing the content, discussion, and assessments will prepare you for this assignment.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of week 5, you will be able to:
Student will begin to identify and utilize the vocabulary of mise-en-scène such as shot type, composition and dominant contrast.
Analyze how the staging and photography of the action affect (i.e location in the frame) the aesthetics of a film.
Describe how the various elements of mise-en-scène inform film genres and styles.
Evaluate how contents of a frame/shot/scene effect the spectator and film.
